The finger recess guides the finger, keeping the driver’s eyes on the road. The round shape expands the range of applications for the square Universal switch. Where a function needs to be felt rather than searched for, the rounded shape provides the finger with its own anchor point in the cockpit. The round push button lens is also larger, with a 35mm diameter lens for ease of use. Applications range from menu and reset buttons to gear selection controls. Depending on the product variant, the haptics can also be selected. The soft haptics with long travel require an actuating force of around 4.5 N, whilst the firm haptics with short travel require around 6.5 N. Both provide noticeable feedback at the switching point.

The round Universal switch is available in the STANDARD, DUAL CONTACT and LIN variants. The diagnostic-capable versions with resistance coding (Namur) detect cable breaks and switching states; two redundant switching signals are also possible. This also makes the button suitable for safety-critical functions. Up to 16 devices can be connected in a network via the LIN interface. The looped LIN signal (daisy chain) reduces wiring effort and thus costs.

Versions with additional status LEDs are in the pipeline. Symbols in accordance with ISO 7000 or as per customer requirements round off the range.

The round Universal switch is developed and manufactured in accordance with IATF 16949. It meets protection degree IP5K4 on the frontside in accordance with ISO 20653.
