A new joystick optical encoder with an adjustable tactile feel is now available in the UK from EAO - the expert for Human Machine Interfaces.
The 60AD from premiere US manufacturer, Grayhill, offers a great advantage over other encoders: the feel of joystick can be adjusted between low, medium and high actuation forces.

This is a simple and low-cost way for system builders to match the feel of the device to the application. For instance, where it’s critical to navigate a device at speed, like in a car’s Satnav, a low actuation force may be preferable, whereas in a wheelchair application a greater force may be required to prevent accidental operation.
Adjustability is made possible because the 60AD uses tactile dome contacts for the joystick instead of the tact switches used in the standard 60A encoder.
Two versions are available, either a four or eight direction joystick, along with options for different cable lengths and types of termination including PCB pin and solder lugs.
The 60AD is suitable for any rotate-and-click navigation devices, particularly within aerospace, medical and automotive applications.
Many other modifications are possible
As the UK's premier supplier of Grayhill encoders, EAO is experienced at modifying products to ensure they meet the application’s exact requirements.
EAO can change the feel of most encoders, vary the number of positions (detents), the rotational resistance and the force needed to push the integral pushbutton. In many cases the shaft size can be modified - even replaced with a stainless steel version for extra strength - and supplied with flats and counter-bores. Any type of cabling or termination is possible or even fully wired into a specified connector.
EAO's custom-build service ensures customers no longer have to make do with imperfectly-fitting standard products.
