Mr Godert DeJager, EAO R&D chief, says: “Customers frequently ask what stop switch they should use? The answer is, it depends. Product developers must have a thorough knowledge of E-stop fundamentals, switch characteristics, and the international standards that apply to their industry.
“Not all stop switches and E-stops are the same, and different industries have different requirements. It’s important to know your industry.”
From one of the world’s largest ranges of switches, EAO offers three main types of stop switch: foolproof emergency-stops, foolproof stop switches and non-foolproof stop switches. Put simply, the difference between an “E-stop” and a “stop” is that E-stops are foolproof and conform to the relevant norms and standards: EN IEC 60947-5-5, DIN EN ISO 13850 and EN 60204-1.
There is a vast range of options within these categories for switches that mount in 16 and 22.5mm cut-outs, including twist-to-unlock or key-to-unlock mechanisms, coloured LED illumination, low-profile mounting styles – everything a product developer will need.
A very wide range of protective shrouds, enclosures, labels and other accessories are available for all EAO products,
